The Bosch AXT 25 TC is an electric garden shredder equipped with a turbine cutting system (Turbine Cut), a mechanism distinct from traditional knife rotor systems. Its 2,500 W brushless induction motor allows it to handle branches up to 45 mm in diameter, with a claimed capacity of 230 kg/h. This shredder targets gardeners who regularly manage substantial amounts of green waste.
Turbine Cut vs. Knife Rotor: Two Grinding Logics
Before judging the performance of the AXT 25 TC, it is essential to understand what structurally differentiates it. A knife rotor shredder (like the Bosch AXT 25 D) crushes and cuts wood through rotary pressure. The Turbine Cut system, on the other hand, uses a turbine that sucks in, slices, and ejects the material in one motion.
The direct consequence: the resulting mulch is more homogeneous, with fewer crushed fibers. This point is significant for mulching or composting, as a consistent mulch decomposes more evenly. Turbine shredders also handle jams better, as the turbine can automatically reverse its rotation to clear a blockage.
A Czech comparison of eight electric shredders distinguished the AXT 25 TC for its ease of material passage, the best among the tested models. Consulting the test of the Bosch AXT 25 TC conducted by a specialized site, the same observation about the smoothness of shredding, even with knotted branches, is noted.

Bosch AXT 25 TC: Real Performance on Large Volumes
The technical specifications state 230 kg/h. In real conditions, this flow rate depends on the type of vegetation introduced. For soft hedge trimmings (privet, laurel), the passage is smooth and nearly continuous. For denser, branched fruit tree branches, it is necessary to feed the shredder in small handfuls to avoid saturating the funnel.
Fresh Branches vs. Dry Wood: Different Results
Green wood, saturated with sap, feeds better than dry wood. Small-diameter dry branches tend to bounce in the funnel instead of being drawn in by the turbine. For dead wood stored for several weeks, it is better to slightly rehydrate the branches before shredding: the passage becomes more regular, and the motor works less hard.
The 53-liter container, integrated under the machine, fills up quickly during large sessions. For a complete pruning of shrubs, expect several emptying sessions. The container is easy to remove, but its volume remains a compromise between the machine’s compactness and working autonomy.
Noise Level and Electrical Constraints of the Bosch Shredder
The brushless induction motor provides significantly quieter operation than a fast blade shredder. The difference is clearly audible: where a disc shredder produces a high-pitched, piercing noise, the AXT 25 TC emits a deeper, more continuous hum, less aggressive for the neighborhood.
Electrical Supply: A Point to Check
With 2,500 W of power, this shredder heavily demands the domestic electrical network. Here are some constraints to anticipate:
- Use an extension cord with sufficient gauge (minimum 1.5 mm², ideally 2.5 mm² beyond 25 meters) to avoid voltage drops that reduce the motor’s effective power.
- Plug the machine into a dedicated circuit. A 10 A circuit breaker is not sufficient: a circuit protected by at least 16 A is required.
- Avoid running other power-hungry devices on the same circuit simultaneously, or you risk tripping the circuit breaker.

Bosch AXT 25 TC: For Which Type of Gardener
This shredder is heavy and expensive compared to rotor models. It makes no sense for a city garden with a two-meter hedge trimmed twice a year. Its domain is the medium to large garden with hedges, shrubs, and fruit trees generating regular volumes of branches.
The Stiftung Warentest, a German testing organization, awarded it a score of 1.9 in a comparison of 18 electric shredders, making it the highest-rated turbine shredder in their ranking. This evaluation focuses on shredding quality, safety, and the machine’s durability.
What Justifies the Investment
- The longevity of the brushless induction motor, which does not suffer from carbon wear unlike conventional motors.
- The quality of the mulch, directly usable for mulching at the base of flower beds or in the vegetable garden.
- The automatic handling of jams, which avoids disassembling the machine with each blockage.
- The contained noise level, a real advantage in residential areas where burning green waste is prohibited and penalized by fines.
For occasional use (once or twice a year), a knife rotor model like the AXT 25 D is more than sufficient and costs less. The Turbine Cut system becomes particularly relevant when the shredder is taken out of the garage at least once a month between March and November.
The Bosch AXT 25 TC remains a specialized machine, designed to last and to efficiently handle large volumes of woody vegetation. Its purchase price is justified over time, provided it is used regularly and on the type of branches for which the turbine makes a difference.
